Clean and maintain your nubuck and suede leather footwear with this Nikwax footwear kit, which includes a cleaning gel and waterproofing agent. The gel cleaner--which works on all suede, nubuck, or smooth-finish leathers and fabric--is designed to remove stubborn dirt and wax left by previous waterproofing applications. It's also formulated to retain leather's natural water repellency, unlike most other cleaners, which instead strip leather of its natural oils. Recommended for Gore-Tex and SympaTex footwear, the cleaner is ideal for general cleaning, but also as a prep for a fresh waterproofing application. Enter the Nikwax water-based waterproofing agent, which contains mineral waxes, flexible polymers, and tanning agents to condition and protect your leather footwear without over-softening it or changing the fit. The agent is specially formulated to bond with fabric fibers and leather, making it suitable for Gore-Tex, SympaTex, and eVent footwear. Note that the wax will darken down leather and suede, so users should always test on an inconspicuous spot first. This is the only stuff I have found to treat nubuck. Works good and leaves shoes looking new.

Nikwax..
I needed to waterproof the dark brown suede shoes that I just purchased. After searching online for just the right product, I purchased Nikwax Footwear Care Kit for Nubuck and Suede which contains:
~ Nubuck & Suede Proof - a water-based, sponge-on product that waterproofs, maintains support & breathability for suede & nubuck items and
~ Footwear Cleaning Gel - a sponge-on cleaner for all outdoor and sports footwear (smooth leather, suede, nubuck and fabric)

Waterproofing my new shoes was an easy process. I pressed the sponge applicator to my shoe to release the liquid and spread it around with the same applicator. After my shoes dried, I brushed them with an old hairbrush to lift the nap. My shoes are just as soft as they were when I bought them, this product did not stiffen them. If I was waterproofing dirty shoes, I'd clean them first with the Nikwax cleaning gel, then waterproof them.

Amazing
After finding a pair of shoes that were in bad enough shape to use this product on, I am amazed at how well it cleaned and renewed the suede. This is an excellent product, both the cleaner and the waterproof renewer. In my first review I did make a big point about how the cleaner portion of this package is to be used on cleaning the entire suede area, not just spot cleaning because you must rinse the product from the shoe under running water. I was hesitant to use it on any of my shoes but I am glad I did.
